The Crooked Road Trip

Matt and Craig did a three-day tour on the Crooked Road Musical Heritage Trail in Southern Virginia during early November 2012.
In the small mill town of Fries, VA (pronounce that “freeze”), they joined the Thursday night jam in the community center with some fine flat foot dancing as well. We were told they call it “flat footin’” in VA and “buck dancing” in NC. Fries is the town credited with the songs “New River Train” and “Lonesome Road Blues”.
Lamsburg, VA has recently been designated as a venue on the Crooked Road and it proved to be a perfect Friday night jam. Great home cooked food, home made butterscotch pie, and some real fine pickin’ and singing.
Saturday morning in Mount Airy, NC and the jam started at 8:30am.in the Mount Airy Theater. It continued until about 11:45 when preparations were being made to go live ON AIR by the local radio station. Matt and Craig are in there somewhere…
Many of the jammers just packed up and walked over to the Mount Airy Outdoor Store where a microphone was set up and jamming continued. Matt and Craig were asked to lead the jam for over an hour with some of their Cabin Fever songs.
There was even jamming at the local barbershop. Floyd the barber, 87 years young, gives Matt a trim…
And back home with some late breaking news…Newly inspired by the Crooked Road, Cabin Fever will be hosting a weekend jam at Beer’D, a Stonington micro brewery located in the Velvet Mill Shops at Bay View Street in Stonington, CT. Day and time to be announced soon.
